What is Melasma?

Melasma is actually a very common skin problem faced mostly by women. Its  a patches of dark skin or skin discoloration that appears on the skin especially on the face or forehead area. Males could also have this skin condition but it is more popular among women.

Normally, melasma will fade after several month or in case it happen during your pregnancy or birth control period, it will fade after you have delivers or stop taking that medication. Melasma will only cause a darker spot in affected area. It not a harmful skin condition but it may decrease your confident on how you look.

How does Melasma Look like?

  • A patch of different color than the normal skin tone of the person
  • The colors of this patch could be tan, brown or grayish in color
  • Generally it appears on the face of the person
  • The most effected places are upper lip, forehead, chin and upper cheek
  • Due to hormonal changes it is common among pregnant women

What causes this skin problem?

Melasma could be stubborn and difficult to get rid of. There are some cosmetic products or treatments that you could use and there are some natural remedies.

1) Cosmetic treatments

  • Using creams and skin lightening products like the Meladerm. Meladerm is a natural product without hydroquinone, safe and very effective in getting rid of these patches.
  • Mechanical exfoliation is another process that could help in getting rid of the skin pigmentation. In this process the top layer of the skin is exfoliated with the help of vacuum suction.
